Igor Lipinski
Renowned pianist plays Feb. 8

The Butler County Symphony Orchestra will present “Celestial Fantasy,” the next concert in the 2013-14 season, at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Butler Intermediate High School auditorium.

Performing with the orchestra will be Igor Lipinski, a world renowned concert pianist.

Lipinski earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in piano performance, literature and musical arts at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester. As a teaching assistant, Lipinski received Eastman’s T.A. Prize for Excellence in Teaching.

In the fall of 2012, Lipinski started his doctorate of musical arts in piano performance at Northwestern University.

He made his American orchestra debut with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra playing “Paderewski Piano Concerto” under the baton of JoAnn Falletta. As a soloist, Lipinski performed with the Rochester and Buffalo philharmonic orchestras and made a New Year’s Day appearance with the Cape Cod Symphony Orchestra in Hyannis, Mass.

Lipinski has made numerous appearances in Poland, Czech Republic, France, United Arab Emirates and United States including recitals in New York City, Chicago and Las Vegas.

Selections for the Feb. 8 concert will include “Night on Bald Mountain” by Mussorgsky, “Musica Celestis” by Kernis, “Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini” by Rachmaninoff and “Death and Transfiguration” by Strauss.

Tickets are $23 for adults and $5.50 for students and are available at the symphony office, 259 S. Main St., from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays or at www.showclix.com.
