SRU cagers handle Scots
Kelvin Dixon scored a game-high 23 points and also had eight rebounds as the Slippery Rock University men’s basketball team held on for a 64-54 win at Edinboro University Saturday.
The win puts The Rock (13-4, 4-1) a half-game behind first place Indiana (Pa.) University in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-West standings.
SRU led 47-33 with 14 minutes to play, but watched as that lead shrunk to a mere point at 55-54 with three minutes remaining.
The Rock closed the game with nine consecutive points, including four from Dixon in that span.
Maurice Lewis-Briggs added 14 points for The Rock.
Women’s BasketballD’Asia Chambers scored 30 points — the third time this season the junior forward has hit for that total — but SRU still fell at Edinboro 83-75.Edinboro remained undefeated in the PSAC-West at 5-0 and improved to 10-3 overall. The Rock fell to 3-12 overall and 0-5 in the conference.Aidan Geise added 15 points and 10 rebounds for SRU.Chambers has scored 25 or more points seven times this season and is averaging 15.9 points per game.
