Dolores J. (Gamble) Maze, 80, of Saxonburg passed away peacefully Thursday at her home in Saxonburg, surrounded by her four daughters and her beloved niece, Sandy.

She was born March 20, 1933, in Freeport to the late Nelson and Beatrice (Blewett) Gamble and was a lifelong resident of the Freeport-Sarver area.

Dolores was a nurse for various area health care facilities until her retirement in 1993.

Mrs. Maze was a member of the Buffalo Presbyterian Church, Buffalo Township, Sarver, where she taught Sunday school and was a church elder.

She enjoyed music, stained glass, crocheting and quilting. In addition, her passion for music inspired her to write her own songs that conveyed her life story and enabled her to profess her faith.

Dolores is survived by her four daughters, Marsha J. (Tim) Mengel of Cabot, Kristen L. Maze of Saxonburg, Linda K. (Joe) Skelley of Clarion and Joni L. Januszkiewicz of Alabama; her four grandchildren, Timothy Maze Mengel and his wife, Brittany, A.J. Januszkiewicz, who was raised by his grandparents Roland and Dolores, Lauren Kay Skelley and Jeanne Januszkiewicz; her brother, Charles Gamble of Saxonburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents mentioned above, she was preceded in death by, the love of her life, Roland R. Maze, her husband of 49½ years, who she married on July 20, 1954, and who she lost suddenly on Jan. 3, 2004; two brothers, Jim and Denny Gamble; four sisters, Jane Cook-Cavalancia, Joan Carrier, Betty “Toot” Zitzman and Peggy Perine; and her second husband, Ted Walcheski.

MAZE — Family and friends of Dolores J. Maze, who died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, may call from noon to 3 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the DENNIS J. DAUGHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 324 Fourth St., Freeport.Funeral ceremonies will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Buffalo Presbyterian Church, 678 Sarver Road, Sarver, with her pastor, the Rev. Jean E. Smith, officiating. Burial will follow in the Buffalo Presbyterian Cemetery, Sarver.Memorial contributions may be made to the Buffalo Presbyterian Church, 678 Sarver Road, Sarver, PA 16055.
