Oran LaVerne 'Bunny' Leonberg
This is in loving memory of Oran LaVerne “Bunny” Leonberg, 83, of Cranberry Township, who died peacefully Tuesday morning.
He was born on the family farm in Cranberry Township on Oct. 9, 1930, the son of the late Frank H. and Nellie Emerick Leonberg, Sr.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy Katherine “Kate” Dunbar Leonberg, who he married on Sept. 26, 1949, and who died on July 11, 2010.
He was most recently employed by GA Industries, having been previously employed by the Diamond Milling Co. and as a self-employed poultry farmer. He drove school bus for many years for the Southwest Butler County School District, now Seneca Valley.
A lifelong member of the Dutilh United Methodist Church, he was one of the founders of the Cranberry Athletic Association, was a coach for both Cranberry Midget Football and Cranberry baseball teams and his love of children was known by all.
Surviving are his four sons, Douglas Leonberg Sr. and his wife, Nancy, of Slippery Rock, Oran Leonberg Jr., and his wife, Lydia, of Cranberry Township, Dean Leonberg and his wife, Cherilyn, and Duane Leonberg and his wife, Kristin, both of Prospect; his two daughters, Lana Barthelmes and her husband, Bob, of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Lori Bain of Cranberry Township; his grandchildren, Doug Jr., Jeff, Lynn, Brad, James, Jenny, Jason, Bryan, Lindsey, Levi and Loran; his great-grandchildren, Zachary, Brianna, Michael, Brian, Bronston, Hagen, Kaylie, Karter, Alyssa and Dominic; his sister, Donna Pegher and her husband, Donald, of New Castle; his brother, Frank H. Leonberg and his wife, Betty, of Mars; nieces and nephews, and his loving caregivers, Carmen and Jamie Marin of Cranberry Township.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Frances Blank, Marjorie Schaudt and Janet Moore.
LEONBERG — The friends of Oran LaVerne “Bunny” Leonberg, who died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2013, will be received at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, 238 Crowe Ave. Mars, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. The services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. James Gascoine, officiating.
