Bernard J. “Bernie” Turcovsky, 82, of Middlesex Township, Valencia, died Sunday evening at Good Samaritan Hospice in Cabot.

Born on Aug. 12, 1931, in West Mifflin, Pa., he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Mitrick Turcovsky.

Bernie was a partner and co-owner of Nursery Park Gulf in Middlesex Township.

A member of the Holy Sepulcher Roman Catholic Church in Glade Mills, he had served as a sergeant in the National Guard from 1949-1952.

Active in the community, he had been a volunteer and a board member of Quality E.M.S. in Mars and had been a transport driver for St. John Specialty Care Center in Mars. An avid golfer and photographer, he was the photographer for the book, “Merry Olde Middlesex.”

A private pilot and avid flier, Bernie owned and flew a 1946 J-3 Piper Cub. He was a member of the Butler County Sheriff's Aeroposse and the Butler County Pilot's Association.

Surviving are his son, James “Jim” Turcovsky of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; a daughter, Carol Marie Scott of Middlesex Township; his grandchildren, Danielle and Michael Turcovsky and Steven and Christopher Scott; his great-grandchildren, Jacob and Wyatt, born Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013; his sister, Flo Bacho and her husband, Jim, of Middlesex Township; his brother, Daniel Turcovsky and his wife, Diane, of Holidaysburg, Pa.; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved cat, “Freddie.”

He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara A. Zebner Turcovsky, who he married on April 17, 1951, and who died on July 15, 2009.

TURCOVSKY — The friends of Bernard J. “Bernie” Turcovsky, who died Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, will be received at the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, 238 Crowe Ave. Mars, from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. A Mass of Christian burial will be in the Holy Sepulcher Roman Catholic Church, 1304 E. Cruikshank Road, Butler at 10 a.m. Saturday with Father John Gizler, III, pastor, officiating.Burial will be in Mars Cemetery, Adams Township.Memorials may be made to Quality E.M.S. 222 Brickyard Road, Mars, PA 16046 or to Good Samaritan Hospice Unit, 134 Marwood Rd.
