Dorothy Jean (Bovard) Davis, 84, passed away Tuesday morning at Orchard Manor in Grove City. She was formerly of Prospect.

Born on June 7, 1929, in New Hope, Cherry Township, Butler County, she was the daughter of the late David Leland and Clara Margaret Taylor Bovard.

Dorothy graduated from West Sunbury High School in 1947, where she was the recipient of the Best Citizenship award in her class. In June of 1948 she married Ray Davis Jr. of Prospect.

Dorothy was a member of The Presbyterian Church of Prospect, where she was a former Sunday School teacher, a deacon, a server of Friday night dinners, and a decorator for the church for holidays. She was also a member of the Prospect Woman's Club and assisted with editions of Prospect Memories. Always a conscientious citizen, she was proud to receive an award in 2000, signifying her 50 consecutive years of voting in Butler County.

Her life in Prospect will be remembered by her farming with her husband, her beautiful flower gardens, many creative scrapbooks, sewing, baking, and visiting with friends. Dorothy loved traveling with her family and especially enjoyed visiting with relatives in Montana, Alabama, and North Carolina. She delighted in visiting New York City, and locally, shopping trips to Ross Park Mall.

She will be remembered for her lovely smile, her big heart, and her ability to never stop giving of herself to anyone in need. She loved taking care of her house and her five rescue kitties.

Dorothy is survived by one son, James Raymond Davis III and his wife, Melodye, of Prospect; her beloved grandson, Jamie Davis, also of Prospect; her sister, Peg Tiberi of Pittsburgh, and many nieces and nephews. She was also Nana to Nathan and Bethany Rasely of Madison, Ala., and D.J. Hayes of Butler.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Jr., who passed away on Oct. 24, 1990; two sisters; and one brother.

DAVIS — A visitation for Dorothy Jean (Bovard) Davis, who passed away Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Edward L. Raisley Funeral Home, 387 Main St., Prospect.The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at The Presbyterian Church of Prospect, 115 Church St., Prospect, with the Rev. Deb Crusan officiating.
