Bluegrass Buffet Ice Jam returns for 17th year

The band Midnight Drive performs at the 2013 January Ice Jam. At front playing the banjo is Jim Scott.

The annual January Ice Jam will bring people of all ages together to enjoy bluegrass music Jan. 3 and 4 at the Butler Days Inn on Route 8. Admission is free.

In its 17th year, the Jam allows listeners, new musicians and veteran players to enjoy bluegrass music.

With more than 2,000 people in attendance each year, the Jam offers listeners and musicians venues both large and small in which to play.

A large stage area seats 500, plus musicians get together for smaller jam sessions throughout the hotel.

The Ice Jam officially begins when the first band takes the stage at 7 p.m. Music begins again at 1 p.m. Saturday. Bands play 30 minute sets until midnight both nights.

As many as 32 different bands will donate their time and talent at the Ice Jam playing traditional, contemporary and gospel bluegrass music. Many even donate their professionally recorded CDs to raffle during the festival.
