John F. Leyland

John F. Leyland, 79, of York, Pa., entered into rest Sunday afternoon at York Hospital.

He was the husband of Carol (Gall) Leyland.

He was born on June 18, 1934, in Butler, the son of the late Joseph and Agnes (Slater) Leyland.

John was a U.S. Navy Korean War veteran.

He worked for the General Telephone Co., retiring with 34 years of service.

He was a member of the St. Joseph Church and a life member of the VFW Post 249 in Butler.

John is survived by his three daughters, Rebecca Leyland of York, Pa., Elizabeth Cook and her husband, David, of Dallastown, Pa., and Susan Leyland of York, Pa.; his two grandchildren, Kathryn and Tyson; and his five siblings, Joseph Leyland of Avon, Conn., Margaret Stehney of Jeannette, Pa., Harry Leyland of Butler, Victor Leyland of Trenton, Mich., and Gail Beitle of Canonsburg, Pa.

He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Delores Fruit and Loretta Leyland.

LEYLAND — A viewing for John F. Leyland, who passed away Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013, will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday with a Mass of Christian burial following at 11 a.m. at the St. Joseph Church, 2935 Kingston Road, York, Pa. The Rev. Zenon Maszczyk OFM Cap. will officiate. Burial will be at Holy Saviour Cemetery.The John W. Keffer Funeral Home, 902 Mt. Rose Ave., York, Pa., is assisting with arrangements.Memorial contributions can be made to the SPCA of York County, 3159 Susquehanna Trial North, York, PA 17406 or to St. Joseph Church, 2935 Kingston Rd., York, PA 17402.
