Jim Spears

James M. Spears, 78, of Butler died peacefully early Thursday morning in the comfort of his home.

Born on May 17, 1935, in Bellvue, Pa., he was a son of the late James M. Spears and Helen (Carlson) Spears Fentzel.

Jim started working as a lineman for West Penn Power in 1956 and also worked in sales department for West Penn Power. He then opened his own Electrical Contracting Company in Butler, retiring in 1997. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, had a lifelong love for aviation, as he held a private pilot's license. He built and flew remote aircraft, was a member of the Butler Area Radio Flying Society and BAM, was a member of the Harley owners group and had enjoyed motorcycles.

Surviving are his wife, Rosemary (Pavlosky) Spears, who he married on Aug. 4, 1956; his three children, Jim (Holly) Spears of Butler, Mary (Keith) McHugh of Brentwood, Pa., and Andy (Kim) Spears of Shaler, Pa.; his four grandchildren, Max Spears of Lafayette, Ind., Anna Spears and Shawn Widing of Friday Harbor, Wash., and Emily Spears and Natalie Spears, both of Shaler, Pa.; his great-grandson, Jackson Widing of Friday Harbor, Wash.; and his two sisters, Betty Himes of Yuma, Ariz., and Jean Papp of Michigan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis Morse.

SPEARS — The friends of James M. Spears, who passed away Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. The funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. Mike Sheer will officiate.
