NEW YORK — Willie Cauley-Stein had 15 points, eight rebounds and a career-high nine blocks to lead No. 3 Kentucky to a 79-65 victory over Providence on Sunday night at Barclays Center.

James Young scored 18 points and Aaron Harrison added 15 for the Wildcats (7-1), who shot 64.3 percent from the field (27 of 42) and led by as many as 17 points in the second half.

Bryce Cotton had 23 points for the Friars (7-2), who finished 10 of 19 (52.6 percent) from 3-point range. They came into the game shooting just 29.4 percent from beyond the arc and were averaging only five 3s per game.

No. 21 Memphis 73, No. 5 Okla. State 68

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Shaq Goodwin had 17 points, Joe Jackson hit four key late free throws and No. 21 Memphis beat No. 5 Oklahoma State in the championship game of the Old Spice Classic.

Memphis (5-1) held Oklahoma State preseason All-American Marcus Smart to 12 points.

Smart turned the ball over with Oklahoma State trailing by one with 11 seconds left, and fouled Jackson, who made two free throws to make it 71-68.

Oklahoma State’s bid to tie it ended when Smart had another turnover in the final seconds and Jackson connected on two more free throws as Memphis took a 73-68 lead.

No. 11 Gonzaga 86, Coppin State 51

SPOKANE, Wash. — Gary Bell Jr. scored 15 points, leading No. 11 Gonzaga to a victory over Coppin State.

Gerard Coleman added 14 and Kyle Dranginis 12 for Gonzaga (7-1), which posted its largest margin of victory of the season.

No. 12 Wichita State 70, St. Louis 65

ST. LOUIS — Ron Baker had 22 points, six rebounds and four steals and No. 12 Wichita State got a pair of key plays from Fred VanVleet in the closing seconds to edge Saint Louis.

Chadrack Lufile hit a layup off VanVleet’s pass for a 68-65 lead with 14 seconds to go, and VanVleet added a pair of free throws with 3.2 seconds left. Cleanthony Early missed 8 of 12 shots but hit a pair of key 3-pointers late and had 12 points for the Shockers (8-0).

No. 14 Oregon 82, Cal Poly 61

EUGENE, Ore. — Richard Amardi scored 14 points to lead five players in double figures for No. 14 Oregon in a win over Cal Poly.

Joseph Young scored 13 points and Johnathan Loyd added a season-high 13 points, five assists and five rebounds for the Ducks (7-0).

Brian Bennett led the Mustangs (2-5) with 11 points and six rebounds. He was the only Cal Poly player in double figures.

UAB 63, No. 16 N. Carolina 59

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Chad Frazier scored 25 points and UAB made three free throws over the final 6.6 seconds to preserve an upset of No. 16 North Carolina.

Jordan Swing hit two free throws and Robert Williams made 1 of 2 to help the Blazers (6-2) hold on after losing most of a 14-point second half lead.

Marcus Paige missed two contested 3-pointers in one late possession and the Tar Heels (4-2) fouled Swing, who gave the Blazers a 62-57 lead.

No. 18 Baylor 104, Hardin-Simmons 59

WACO, Texas — Cory Jefferson had 16 points and 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double this season, Brady Heslip had 17 points with five 3-pointers and No. 18 Baylor beat Hardin-Simmons.

Rico Gathers had 17 points and nine rebounds for Baylor (7-1), which had six players finish with double-figure scoring. Taurean Prince had 13 points, while Isaiah Austin had 12 and Gary Franklin 10.

Cameron Barnes had 15 points to lead Hardin-Simmons (0-4).

George Wash. 60, No. 20 Creighton 53

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Kevin Larsen gave George Washington the lead with 1:03 left in the game and the Colonials held off No. 20 Creighton for a victory that gave them third place in the Wooden Legacy.

The Colonials (6-1) took advantage of an off night by Doug McDermott, who came in averaging nearly 28 points per game but finished with seven.

Ethan Wragge scored 16 and Grant Gibbs had 12 for the Bluejays (5-2).

Larsen led four Colonials in double figures. McDonald and Isaiah Armwood scored 12 apiece and Kethan Savage finished with 10.

San Diego State 67, No. 25 Marquette 59

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Xavier Thames scored a career-high 27 points and San Diego State held off a late rally to beat No. 25 Marquette in the championship game of the Wooden Legacy.

The game was tied at 53 with 3½ minutes remaining, but the Aztecs (5-1) closed with a 14-4 run to knock off their second ranked opponent in two games.

Thames, who was named tournament MVP, shot 7 of 16 from the field, including 5 for 6 from three-point range. He also drained six free throws in the finals 40 seconds to secure the win.

Josh Davis had a game-high 11 rebounds and joined Thames on the all-tournament team, and Dakari Allen and Winston Shepard each scored eight points for SDSU.
