John Richard 'Rich' Gallagher

John Richard “Rich” Gallagher, 86, of Butler passed away Monday at the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia.

He was born on July 11, 1927, in Butler to the late John F. Gallagher and Irene E. Cuffman Gallagher.

Mr. Gallagher was a member of the Summit Evangelical Presbyterian Church.

He retired from the U.S. Steel Sintering Plant and then went to work at Butler Auto Auction for 10 years.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he served as a fireman second class during World War II aboard various ships and at ports.

He was a member of the Butler Lodge 272 F&AM, the Syria Caravan 14 A.A.O.N.M.S., the American Legion Post 117 and the Order of the Eastern Star Butler Chapter 45. Mr. Gallagher treasured family gatherings and enjoyed bowling.

Mr. Gallagher is survived by his wife of 66 years, Evelyn M. (Taylor) Gallagher, who he married on April 4, 1947; his two sons, Richard Gallagher and his wife, Becky, of Butler and Thomas Gallagher and his wife, Lynnette, of Butler; his daughter, Joy Dubois and her husband, Raymond, of Cranberry Township; his eight grandchildren, Timothy Gallagher and his wife, Bridgette, of Butler, Chad Gallagher of Butler, Lisa Hall and her husband, Bill, of West Hickory, Pa., Jayme Steighner and her husband, Cory, of Butler, Jason Pflugh and his wife, Kristen, of Saxonburg, Joshua Pflugh and his wife, Emily, of Sarver, Ryan Gallagher and his wife, Katrina, of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Kerri Miller and her husband, Joseph, of Dundee, Ohio. His two step-grandchildren, Vincent Dubois of Washington, Pa., and Michael Dubois of McMurray, Pa.; his 17 great-grandchildren; his one step-great-grandson; his sister, Deborah Thompson and her husband, Francis, of New Port Richey, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Howard and Dennis Gallagher; his sister, Delores Nodge; and his daughter-in-law, Marty Gallagher.

Gallagher — The friends of John Richard “Rich” Gallagher, who passed away Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, will be received at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday. Officers and members of the Butler Lodge 272 F&AM will meet at the funeral home at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday for a Masonic service.The funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Summit Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 181 Caldwell Drive, Butler, with the Rev. Dr. Tom Jones of the Summit Evangelical Presbyterian Church officiating.Officers and members of the American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora and the VFW Post 249 will conduct military honors at Summit Evangelical Presbyterian Church Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Summit Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 181 Caldwell Drive, Butler, PA 16002 or to the Good Samaritan Hospice, 3500 Brooktree Road, Suite 320, Wexford, PA 15090.Online condolences can be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
