BEAVER — A Western Pennsylvania jury has found a former borough councilman guilty of murdering a young woman 1979.
On Friday morning the Beaver County jury of seven women and five men found 67-year-old Gregory Scott, 67, guilty of third-degree murder for the death of Catherine Janet Walsh.
Walsh was found strangled and bound in her Monaca apartment in September 1979. She was 23.
Hopkins is a former borough councilman in nearby Bridgewater.
Hopkins was charged in 2012 after DNA analysis found his previously undetected DNA on her nightgown, a bedsheet and the rope used to bind her hands. Hopkins said he had an affair with Walsh but denied killing her.
PHILADELPHIA — An alumnus of Temple University surprised the crowd at an awards dinner by pledging $25 million to his alma mater.The donation from Lewis Katz would be the largest gift ever to the Philadelphia school.Katz made the announcement Wednesday night after receiving a leadership award from Temple’s business school. He did not say how the gift would be used.Katz graduated from Temple in 1963 and went on to make a fortune in parking lots and real estate.
