Suspect sought for tire slashings in city

City police said the number of vehicles in the city that have had their tires slashed has grown to 19.

Police have a photograph from a surveillance camera at the A-Plus gas station on West Jefferson Street of a man they suspect has been slashing the tires in the West End.

Capt. David Dalcamo said the man in the surveillance video fits the description of the suspect detailed through the department’s investigation.

The picture was posted on the department’s Facebook page Tuesday night in hopes the public will help identify the man.

Police began taking calls late Sunday night of the vandalism throughout West New Castle and Dumbaugh streets, and Snyder, Ridge, North Sixth and American avenues.

By Monday the number of victims was at 15, but several more victims reported slashings Tuesday.

Dalcamo said multiple tires on some of the vehicles could have been slashed, which could lead to felony charges for the suspect.

Dalcamo said that $5,000 worth of damages could result in a felony.

Investigators are asking anyone with information on the man to contact police at 724-287-7742.
