Florence O. (Brannan) King
Florence O. (Brannan) King, 90, of Center Township passed away at 1:30 a.m. Monday at the Chicora Medical Center.
She was born on Sept. 23, 1923, in Franklin Township to the late Howard C. Brannan and Ella (Tebay) Brannan.
Mrs. King was a member of the Hill United Presbyterian Church, where she had belonged to the missionary society.
Before World War II, she moved to Grove City with her parents and worked at a drugstore and at Grove City College. During the war, she worked at Cooper-Bessemer, building engines for the Navy.
She married Kenneth Howard King on Dec. 12, 1942, in Miami Beach, Fla. He died on April 2, 2005.
After he returned from World War II, they made their home in Center Township.
She retired from the Butler School District, where she had worked in food service at the Center Township School for 20 years.
After her retirement, she and her husband enjoyed traveling and spent their winters in Sarasota, Fla., for several years. They also enjoyed camping and boating at their camp along the Allegheny River in Mosgrove, Armstrong County. They were members of the BOCO Travel Club. Mrs. King also had been a Cub Scout den mother.
She is survived by her two children, Patricia Moser and her husband, William, of Oakland Township and R. Dennis King and his wife, Cheryl, of Center Township; her three granddaughters, Heather (Moser) Jewart and her husband, Michael, of Concord Township and Erin and Ashley King of Center Township, and her four great-grandchildren, Zachary, Jacob, Samuel and Abigail Jewart, all of Concord Township. Also surviving are her two sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Balsiger and Ruth (Eugene) McKinney, both of Center Township, and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her infant brother, Merle C. Brannan; her sister and her husband, Stella and George McCandless, and her two nieces, Virginia McCandless, who died in infancy, and Joan McCandless.
KING — The friends of Florence O. (Brannan) King, who passed away Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at the funeral home with the Rev. Clark Sawyer of the Hill United Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will take place in the Greenlawn Burial Estates.
