Joseph J. Blizman, ex-Callery mayor
Joseph J. Blizman, 73, of Callery died Sunday morning in UPMC Passavant Cranberry Place.
Born on Nov. 6, 1939, in Ellwood City, he was the son of the late Joseph A. and Sally Ross Blizman.
He was a member of the Crestview Community Church, Callery, where he served as a deacon.
He had retired from G. A. Industries in Cranberry Township as a machinist.
Joe was a member of Loyal Order of the Moose 957 in Harmony for 40 years, the Callery Volunteer Fire Department, the Mars VFW Post 7505, a life member of the Hungarian Society in Zelienople, and a past president, former mayor and member of Callery Borough Council.
He enjoyed bowling, NASCAR racing, traveling, movies, and going to dinner with his special friend, Karen Mueller.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Valerie E. Ferianc Hauserman Blizman, who died May 4, 2009, and his grandson.
He is survived by his two daughters, Teresa (Matthew) Schmitt of East Windsor, Conn., and Melissa Foley of Callery and her friend, Tim Rabenstein; his two sons, Joseph (Deborah) Blizman of Mechanicsville, Va., and Donald (Karen) Hauserman of Lucinda, Pa.; his 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Blizman — The family of Joseph J. Blizman, who died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013, will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the A. Carl Kinsey-Ronald N. Volz Funeral Home, 328 W. Main St., Evans City. A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Crestview Community Church, Callery. Burial will be in Evans City Cemetery.
