Carolyn J. Cook

Carolyn J. Hummel Zehmisch Cook, 73, of Connoquenessing died Friday morning in the VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler.

Born Feb. 20, 1940, in Rocky Grove, Venango County, she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Edna Stitzinger Hummel.

Mrs. Cook was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Connoquenessing, where she was active with the women’s group.

She had retired from Evergreen Nursing Center as an LPN after 12 years.

She was an avid baker. She made many afghans. One of her greatest joys was making Caps for Kids through Project Linus.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter R. Zehmisch, on Aug. 30, 1991; and two brothers, Harold and Harry Stitzinger.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, George Cook, who she married May 18, 1994; four daughters, Linda (Verne) Thompson of West Sunbury, Anne Uram of Callery, Allison Zehmisch of Butler and Linda (John) Chrapowitzky of New York; three sons, John (Irene) Zehmisch of Arizona, Robert “Bob” Zehmisch of Pittsburgh and Michael (Jennifer) Zehmisch of Butler; one stepdaughter, Joan Martin of Bethel Park; two stepsons, Stephen Spisak of Connoquenessing and George (Alene) Cook of Georgia; one sister, Louise Bacher of Colorado; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

COOK — The family of Carolyn J. Hummel Zehmisch Cook, who died Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, will welcome friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the A. Carl Kinsey-Ronald N. Volz Funeral Home, 328 W. Main St., Evans City. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Connoquenessing.
