Bertha Margaret (Herold) 'Bert' Rettig

Bertha Margaret (Herold) “Bert” Rettig, 87, of Cabot went to be with her Savior on Tuesday at Concordia Lutheran Ministries.

She was born on July 18, 1926, in Butler to the late Fred C. Herold and Martha M. (Dodds) Herold Stuby.

Bert was a homemaker and had previously worked at the Bantam Car Co., Sears and Magnetics.

She was a member of the St. Luke Lutheran Church, where she was a volunteer in the church office, assisted in the Marriage Encounter and Pre-Cana programs and was a mentor to young people. Bert organized a support group for Parkinson's patients. She enjoyed Western-style square dancing, playing Pinochle, and was a member of two 500 card clubs. Bert loved to travel and visit her grandchildren.

Bert is survived by her husband of 66 years, Alvin G. Rettig, and their children, Margaret R. Meindl and her husband, Paul, of Raleigh, N.C., Robert A. Rettig and his wife, Carol, of Frederick, Md., Bonnie S. Isovitsch and her husband, George, of Butler, and Roger A. Rettig and his wife, Nancy, of Butler. Her 10 grandchildren; her three great-grandchildren; her two sisters, Joan Compton of Flagler Beach, Fla., and Mary A. Herold of Burke, Va.; her two brothers, Frank Herold and his wife, Evelyn, of Lower Burrell, Pa., and Fred Herold and his wife, Gail, of Graniteville, S.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

We remember and honor her parents and sister, Annabelle Fleming, who preceded her in death.

RETTIG — The friends of Bertha Margaret (Herold) “Bert” Rettig, who passed away Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.The committal services will be at Gruenwald Cemetery at 9:15 a.m. Saturday. A celebration of life service will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Luke Lutheran Church and School, 330 Hannastown Road, Cabot, with the Rev. Barry Keurulainen officiating.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Luke Lutheran Church and School, 330 Hannahstown Road, Cabot, PA 16023.Online condolences can be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
