PITTSBURGH — Bishop David Zubik has appointed Michael Latusek as acting secretary for Catholic education in the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh.Latusek is the superintendent of Catholic Schools, a post that he retains.He replaces Robert Paserba of Center Township, who will retire at the end of 2013.Paserba has stepped back from day-to-day duties while he completes major projects, including labor negotiations with teachers.Latusek will oversee all Catholic schools, including those in Butler County.

CRANBERRY TWP — MSA, the global leader in safety products and systems, announced Rebecca Roberts was elected to MSA's board of directors.Roberts retired in 2011 as president of Chevron Pipe Line Co., a wholly owned subsidiary of Chevron Corp. She currently is the director for Black Hills Corp. and Enbridge Energy Partners.Her election is the continuation of a plan initiated in 2012 to address recent retirements, according to a company news release.“We feel very fortunate to be able to add a person of Ms. Roberts' caliber to the MSA Board,” William Lambert, MSA's president and CEO, said in the release. “Rebecca brings to MSA a tremendous amount of experience in the areas of general management and operations, with strong expertise in the oil, gas and petrochemical industry. HARRISBURG — The state Department of Environmental Protection said $1 million in solar rebates remain for small businesses and homeowners through its Sunshine Solar program, which ends Dec. 31 or when funds are exhausted.The program was reinstated in January, and since that time, the state has invested more than $6 million into local economies through solar rebates.Homeowners are eligible for rebates of up to $7,500 for solar electric projects. Small businesses of 100 or fewer employees are eligible to receive up to $52,500. Homeowners are eligible for rebates of up to $5,000 for solar hot water projects, while small businesses are eligible to receive up to $50,000. -

BUTLER TWP — Harbor Freight Tools will hold its grand opening celebration at Moraine Pointe Plaza on Wednesday.The hardware store opened Oct. 27.The grand opening will have a ribbon cutting at 11:30 a.m. and sales throughout the day.Harbor Freight has more than 450 stores nationwide and stocks more than 7,000 automotive and workshop tools.

Boksenbaum has joined Lynch Weis, LLC as a member of the corporate practice group with concentration in the energy and technology sectors, including the oil and gas industries.Boksenbaum, who recently relocated from Seattle, practiced law on the West Coast for 13 years. Before joining Lynch Weis, She was general counsel for a number of startups companies.She is a graduate of the University of Washington, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and received her J.D. from the University of Washington School of Law.

CRANBERRY TWP — Westinghouse Electric has appointed Steve Hamilton as senior vice president, quality, environment, health and safety, effective immediately.In this position, he will lead Westinghouse efforts in those environmental and safety areas.Hamilton has more than 32 years of global nuclear quality experience. He comes to Westinghouse from GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy, where he was senior vice president, nuclear oversight.He also is a previous Westinghouse employee who served as president, PN Services, a former Westinghouse subsidiary specializing in chemical cleaning and decontamination for nuclear reactors.

AUSTIN, Texas — The Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services has been honored for 50 years of membership with Selected Independent Funeral Homes.Jennifer Bauer Eroh accepted the honor at the annual meeting on Oct. 16-19 of the national group in Austin, Texas.The family-owned funeral home, which joined the organization in 1963 under Eroh’s grandfather, Amberson C. Bauer, has locations in Petrolia, Rimersburg, Kittanning, Elderton and Dayton.
