Bernice Offstein
Bernice Offstein, 94, of Cranberry Township passed away at 7:35 p.m. Thursday at the Sherwood Oaks Nursing Center.
Bernice was born on July 27, 1919, in Pittsburgh to the late Sol Bennett and Anna (Shapiro) Bennett.
Mrs. Offstein was a graduate of Taylor Alderdice High School in Pittsburgh.
She worked as an interior designer at Furniture Galleries Carpet One, a third generation family business. Mrs. Offstein was one of the original founders of Furniture Galleries Inc., 1961 to 1981.
She was a member of the Congregation B'nai Abraham, where she was a past member of the B'nai Abraham Sisterhood and the Butler Chapter of Hadassah.
Mrs. Offstein is survived by her husband, I. Albert Offstein, who she married Dec. 11, 1945; her son, Alan Offstein and his wife, Patricia, of Butler; her two grandsons, Dr. Evan Hayden Offstein of Frostburg, Md., and Jody Bennett Offstein and his wife, Jennifer, of Butler; her four great-grandchildren, Madison, Molly, Maura and Olivia Offstein, and her two sisters, Sandra Ruttenberg of Hollywood, Fla., and June Shapiro of Boca Raton, Fla.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant brother, and her two sisters, Dorothy Platt and Ruth Mandell.
Offstein — Private services for Bernice Offstein, who passed away Thursday, Oct. 3, 2013, were at the convenience of the family with Cantor Michal Gray-Schaffer of Congregation B'nai Abraham officiating. Burial took place in the Congregation B'nai Abraham Cemetery.Arrangements were handled by the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E.
