LOS ANGELES — The Transportation Security Administration officer killed by a gunman at Los Angeles International Airport was honored Wednesday afternoon in a solemn ceremony at the airport.

Gerardo Hernandez was remembered by blue-shirted TSA colleagues who formed a procession out of Terminal 3, where he was shot. They were saluted by a line of police. City firefighters and members of other agencies also were on hand as a motorcade circled the airport's main road twice.

A special U.S. honor flag that has been used across the nation to honor fallen police and firefighters was flown in from Texas and escorted by an honor guard and bagpipers. The flag is expected to be used at Hernandez's funeral.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Just a few hours after state lawmakers approved same-sex marriage in Illinois, Chicago wedding planner Lindsay Parrott started getting her first inquiries for summer weddings.“I got an e-mail at 11 p.m.,” she said. “Everybody is really excited to be able to do this.”From the wedding industry to tourism, Illinois businesses are gearing up for June 1, the first day that same-sex marriage licenses can be issued under legislation approved by lawmakers on Tuesday. While legislators in favor and the state's top elected officials have touted gay marriage as a matter of equality and civil rights, businesses hope the start of weddings will be a nice boost to the state's economy, too.Illinois is set to become the 15th state to legalize same-sex marriage when Gov. Pat Quinn signs the bill, which the Chicago Democrat said Wednesday he'll do with a festive celebration this month.

BOSTON — When Marty Walsh won the Boston mayor's race, Vice President Joe Biden was quick to pick up the phone to congratulate him.But there was a problem. The Marty Walsh who Biden had on the other end of the phone wasn't the Marty Walsh who had been elected to succeed longtime Boston Mayor Thomas Menino. The Marty Walsh who Biden had connected with was actually a former aide to the late U.S. Senator Edward Kennedy. That Marty Walsh said before he could explain the mix-up, Biden launched into his congratulations, saying “Marty, you did it, you son of a gun.”Walsh, who said he has received misplaced calls for the other Marty Walsh in the past, said he quickly set Biden straight and passed along the cell phone number for the mayor-elect.Walsh said Biden then jokingly congratulated him for not being mayor.
