Inmate allowed out of prison for son's funeral
A Connoquenessing Township man accused of causing a fatal vehicle collision had permission to leave the Butler County Prison today to attend the funeral of his infant son.
Justin Enslen, 26, has been in prison since he drove his pickup truck into oncoming traffic on Route 68, causing a head-on collision.
The oncoming motorist, 52-year-old Mark Bishop of Oakland Township, was killed.
According to court records, Enslen has been in prison since the February collision, which was about four months before his son, Jayden Enslen, was born.
Jayden was 4 months old when he died Saturday.
Enslen’s defense attorney Terri Schultz said he has previously expressed a desire to be freed from the prison to care for his family.
“He has said, ‘I have a family now. I want to see my son,’” Schultz said.
Schultz successfully asked the court for permission for Enslen to leave the prison to attend the funeral. County Judge Timothy McCune granted the motion, allowing Enslen to leave the prison and go to Geibel Funeral Home in Butler from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today. He will be accompanied by a deputy sheriff.
