Richard Hortert

Richard R. Hortert, 62, of Butler died Sunday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born on March 7, 1951, in Butler, he was a son Carl R. Hortert and LaVerna R. (Gilliland) Hortert.

He graduated from Butler High School.

He served in the U.S. Army for 12 years during the Vietnam War.

Later he had worked at several security jobs.

He was a member of the St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church in Meridian and the American Legion. He enjoyed sports, especially watching the Pittsburgh teams, playing cards and spending time with his family.

Surviving are his parents, Carl and LaVerna Hortert of Evans City; his siblings, Daniel (Kathy) Hortert of Maryland, Larry (Debra) Hortert of Georgia, Keith (Nean) Hortert of Beaver Falls, Debbie (Frank) Zbuckvich of Butler and Jeff (Leslie) Hortert of Kentucky; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

HORTERT — The friends of Richard R. Hortert, who died Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013, will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Fidelis Roman Catholic Church, 125 Buttercup Road, Meridian. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Burial Estates.The Bereavement Committee of the St. Fidelis Parish will meet at 3 p.m. Friday at the funeral home for a Parish Vigil Service.Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, Memorial Processing Center, 777 Penn Center Blvd., Suite 200 Pittsburgh, PA 15235.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
