Evelyn J. Stewart

Evelyn J. Burns Stewart, 88, of Hufnagel Road, Harmony, died Thursday evening at Ellwood City Hospital.

Evelyn was born in Ellwood City on Sept. 24, 1924. She was the daughter of William and Sadie Lumley Hoffman.

She had been employed as a nurse's aide in Zelienople and in Butler and was a homemaker.

She was a longtime member of the Christian Missionary Alliance Church of Portersville. She enjoyed fishing and hunting, helping at the Portersville food pantry, the company of her dog “Foxxy,” and trips to the casino.

She is survived by four sons, Charles Burns and his wife, Beatrice, of Portersville, Robert Burns and his wife, Linda, of Tennessee, William Burns and his wife, Patricia, of Butler and Richard Burns and his wife, Cyndi, of Harmony; three daughters, Julia Rebel and her husband, John, of Beaver Falls, Bonnie Dyke and her husband, Mitch, of Ellwood City and Jean Haas and her husband, Robin, of Ellwood City; one sister, Mable Tritt; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Henry C. Burns Sr.; and one son, Henry C. Burns Jr.

STEWART — Friends of Evelyn J. Burns Stewart, who died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, will be received at the Jay Bryan Funeral Home, 443 Main St. Prospect from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday.A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Rick Burns, a Baptist minister and Mrs. Stewart's nephew, officiating. Interment will follow at Locust Grove Cemetery in Ellwood City.Memorial contributions in Mrs. Stewart's name may be made to the Portersville Food Pantry, P.O. Box 102, Portersville, PA 16051.
