Roy H. 'Sonny' Waugaman

Roy H. “Sonny” Waugaman, 62, of Evans City died Thursday morning at his home after a two-year illness.

Born on Oct. 22, 1950, in Tarentum, Pa., he was the son of the late Roy H. Jr. and Mary Jasper Waugaman.

Sonny was a member of the Harmony-Zelienople United Methodist Church.

He had retired in 2007 from the Seneca Valley School District as a fifth-grade teacher. He had taught for 24 years at Rowan Elementary and then for 10 years in Evans City Elementary when the fifth graders were transferred to Evans City.

Roy was a “68” graduate of Elderton High School, a 1973 graduate of California University, and then earned his master's degree of science in 1980 from Slippery Rock University. Roy was a 42-year member of the Apollo Lodge F & AM 437 and a member of the Coudersport Consistory.

He was a member of the Evans City Sportsman's Club and a life member of the NRA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed preparing the ball fields and watching his grandson Austin's baseball games.

Roy sang with the King's Men Quartet.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Caldwell Waugaman, who he married Aug. 11, 1979; a daughter and a son, Jamie Ellen and Jason R.; two sisters, Barbara J. Waugaman of Evans City and Nancy (Jeff) Wofford of Worthington; one brother, William (Cathy) Waugaman of Elderton; three grandchildren, Austin, Jonah, and Sophie, and several nieces and nephews.

WAUGAMAN — The family of Roy H. “Sonny” Waugaman, who died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the A. Carl Kinsey-Ronald N. Volz Funeral Home, 328 W. Main St., Evans City. The family asks you to join them at 10 a.m. Monday at the Harmony-Zelienople United Methodist Church for a special concert by the King's Men Quartet celebrating Roy's life. Services will follow at 11 a.m., with the Rev. John Jefferis officiating.The Harmony Lodge 429 F & AM will hold Masonic services at 5:45 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.Additional information may be obtained at www.kinsey-volzfuneralhome.com
