Tourism board elects 3 new members

Members of the county’s tourism bureau Thursday night elected three new people to serve terms on the board of directors.

The new members to the 12-member board are Scott Choura, M.J. McCurdy and Elizabeth Jacobs. The board met at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Each board member represents a defined sector of the local economy and often sits on subcommittees

For instance, Choura is the general manager and director of the Lake Arthur Golf Club. He replaces outgoing board member and treasurer Wayne Conley, owner of Conley Resort, and will represent all of the golf courses that are part of the tourism bureau.

McCurdy, a local businesswoman, will now represent the shopping committee and replaces outgoing member Nicolette Tolomeo-Germain.

McCurdy is the owner and manager of the Bottlebrush Gallery in Harmony, previously served as an officer in the Harmony Business Association and also sits on the board of directors for the county’s humane society.

Jacobs of the Zelienople Historical Society will represent the history and heritage aspect on the tourism board. She replaces outgoing board member Larry Berg.

Tourism President Jack Cohen said Friday that while he’s excited to work with a new batch of board members, he’ll greatly miss the outgoing members who he’s worked with for many years. “They’ve all been great assets to our organization,” he said. “They’ve helped us grow into what we are today. We couldn’t have done it without their support.”

Each new board member will serve a three-year term.
