Mary Olive (Taggart) Swigart, 92, formerly of Butler, passed away at 10:35 p.m. Thursday at the Haven Homes Assisted Living in Stow, Ohio.

She was born on Nov. 30, 1920, in Butler to the late Clyde L. Taggart and Margaret Eates Taggart.

She was a lifetime member of the Butler County Historical Society. Mrs. Swigart was also a member of the Civil War Roundtable Association, the Old Stone House Restoration Committee, the Committees to Restore Cooper Cabin and Shaw House, and a Docent at the Little Red School House in Butler for 10 years. She was a Girl Scout and Brownie leader, a Grey Lady in World War II, a member of the Amateur Ham Radio Association and a member of the Rebekah Lodge and Evening Star Lodge.

Mrs. Swigart enjoyed history and genealogy and was a 7th generation of an Irish family who settled in Worth Township. She attended family reunions and ham radio swap meets. She enjoyed reading the Butler Eagle daily, history books and antique books.

Mrs. Swigart is survived by one sister, Yvonne Taggart Allen of Stow, Ohio; one sister-in-law, Idabelle Taggart of Stow, Ohio; three nieces, Kendra (Jim) Allen-Boulton of Stow, Ohio, Lynn (Russell) Taggart-Lane of Massachusetts and Karen (Rich) Taggart-Hatlen of California; two nephews, Ron L. Taggart of Stow, Ohio, and Scott M. (Debbie) Allen of California; two great-nephews, Chad and Jesse Boulton of Stow, Ohio; one stepson, Garrison (Barbara) Swigart of North Carolina; two stepdaughters, Dr. Valerie (Mike) Swigart Gold of Pittsburgh and Lynn (Lester) Swigart Large of Butler; six step-grandchildren, Nicole, Andy, Todd, Flint, Jay and Chad; five stepnieces, Sue, Amy, Debbie, Diane and Hannah; and two step-nephews, Joel and Jeff.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred “Dale” Swigart, who she married in June of 1966, and who passed away Jan. 31, 2007, and one brother, Frank “Hank” Taggart.

SWIGART — The friends of Mary Olive (Taggart) Swigart, who passed away Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, will be received from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler. A memorial service will immediately follow at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Michael Menees of the Christ’s Outreach Church officiating.

Burial has taken place at the North Side Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Butler County Historical Society, 123 W. Diamond St., Butler, PA 16001.
