Irene Ramsey
Irene Ramsey, 94, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully Sept. 7.
Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be missed for her adventurous spirit, beautiful smile, toughness and ability to accomplish whatever she set out to do.
She was born Mary Irene Meyer to Reuben and Mary Douty Meyer in Loganton, Pa.
Mrs. Ramsey grew up in a dairy farming community. She graduated with degrees from both Lock Haven University and The Pennsylvania State University and began working in Butler, where she met and married William Allen Ramsey in June of 1942. The pair spent the next 62 years in Butler, raising three children, running a successful dairy business and serving their community and the Presbyterian Church.

Her own green thumb was evident in the beautiful plants displayed throughout her home. She and Mr. Ramsey were also active in American Foreign Service, an exchange program for foreign students who wished to study in America.
Mrs. Ramsey’s proudest accomplishment was her involvement with the formation of Butler High School, serving on the first joint school board of the Butler area.
The Ramseys enjoyed traveling, both across the United States and abroad. In their later years, they delighted in accompanying their children and extended family on several RV camping trips.
