HOUSTON — Case Keenum, who hasn’t played in a meaningful game since he was in college back in January 2012, will start at quarterback for the Houston Texans on Sunday in one of the tougher environments in the NFL.

Keenum will make his first appearance in a regular-season game against the rugged defense of the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium, where the fans just set a Guinness record as the noisiest outdoor stadium in the world.

Keenum will start for Matt Schaub, who is out dealing with injuries to his right ankle and foot, and try to help the Houston Texans snap a four-game losing streak.

Peterson returns from son’s funeralEDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — Adrian Peterson rejoined the Minnesota Vikings after missing practice to attend the funeral for his 2-year-old son.Peterson says he went to Sioux Falls, S.D., on Wednesday for the private service. The boy died last week in an alleged case of child abuse. Peterson says he didn’t know the child was his until about two months ago and had been working with the boy’s mother to support the family financially and meet the boy, Tyrese Robert Ruffin.

Ryan steps down as Rangers’ CEOARLINGTON, Texas — Nolan Ryan is leaving the Texas Rangers again, stepping away from his CEO role 20 years after ending his Hall of Fame career as a pitcher.In what the team called a retirement, Ryan said that he is resigning as chief executive of the Rangers in a move effective at the end of this month. He is also selling his ownership stake in the team to co-chairmen Ray Davis and Bob Simpson.

Ex-Steeler Winston new Grambling coachGRAMBLING, La. — Winless Grambling State changed football coaches for the second time this season.Defensive assistant Dennis “Dirt” Winston, a former NFL linebacker with Pittsburgh and New Orleans, has been named the new interim coach for the Tigers (0-7). Winston replaces George Ragsdale, who was promoted from running backs coach in September when Doug Williams was fired. Ragsdale has been reassigned in the athletic department.

Henry gets eagle, fires 11-under 60LAS VEGAS — J.J. Henry made a 50-foot eagle putt from the fringe on his final hole for an 11-under 60 and a one-stroke lead in the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.Henry also had nine birdies in perfect conditions at TPC Summerlin en route to the lowest round of his career. The two-time PGA Tour winner broke the course record and was a shot off the event mark of 59 set by Chip Beck in 1991 at Sunrise Golf Club.

Hall nets 2 goals 8 seconds apartUNIONDALE, N.Y. — Edmonton Oilers forward Taylor Hall scored two goals just 8 seconds apart to break the team mark set by Wayne Gretzky.The 21-year-old Hall connected at 15:52 of the first period with a wrist shot from the left circle and then knocked a rebound past New York Islanders goalie Evgeni Nabokov at 16:00 on Thursday night.
