Scoop looks to rebound

Well, I didn't quite go 10-0 last week.

In fact, I had a pretty lousy time of it, going 6-4 and reverting back to the state in which I began the season.

Back to being a bird brain.

The good thing about high school football season is there is always next week.

I have a chance to redeem myself with this slate of games.

On to the picks:

• Fox Chapel 21, Butler 19 — There's no sugar coating it. Butler has had a rough season.

Still, there is hope this week that the Tornado can touch down and get a victory.

• Seneca Valley 27, Bethel Park 18 — The Raiders gutted out an overtime win last week and face another tough opponent this week.

But I believe in the Holl gang.

• Indiana 22, Knoch 21 — The Little Indians are a scary team with just two wins. They have lost their last three games by seven points and were up by two touchdowns on unbeaten West Mifflin before losing.

Knoch has a rough one against Mars, but the Knights always seem to bounce back. In games like this, I go with the home team.

• Mars 41, Hollidaysburg 14 — Hollidaysburg will have no holiday trying to stop Mars running back Josh Schultheis, who went over 3,000 career rushing yards last week as a junior.

Schultheis is quicker and healthier this season, so look out.

• Washington 44, Freeport 8 — Even without superstar Shai McKenzie, Wash High's offense is potent.

The Yellowjackets have played pretty well on defense this season, but the offense hasn't helped that unit out much.

• Shady Side Academy 32, Summit Academy 15 — In the battle of academies, Shady Side is the most complete team.

• Karns City 33, Oil City 31 — The Gremlins have played seven games decided by more than 35 points.

Not this week. This one should go down to the wire.

• Union 33, Moniteau 27 — Speaking of teams who play right down to the wire, the Warriors are coming off their first win of the season and will face a potent Union offense.

This should be the most entertaining game of the week.

• St. Joe's Academy 34, A-C Valley 18 — St. Joe's Academy's first ever football game was a win.

The Falcons are still fishing for their first of this season.

• Slippery Rock 50, Franklin 8 — The Rockets have rushed for 3,002 yards this season and show no signs of letting up.

And they are going up against a very leaky Franklin defense.

Uh oh. Get your calculators ready.

• Grove City 45, Titusville 8 — The last time the Eagles were coming off a loss, they were mad and rolled up 82 points.

Imagine how unhappy they are after taking one on the chin against rival Slippery Rock.

Uh oh. Change the batteries in that calculator.

Scoop is 58-20 this season and is hiding his beak in shame.
