Jack Lee Bowen, 76, of Butler passed away Wednesday at the VA Butler Healthcare Community Living Center.

He was born on Sept. 19, 1936, in Brookville, Pa., the son of the late Harry and Margaret (Basinger) Bowen.

Jack served bravely in the U.S. Army for two decades, retiring with the rank of sergeant first class. Appointments include the 101st Airborne Division and service in Korea and Germany.

Jack was also a life member of both the Butler VFW and the DAV. For many years, he was active in the Moose and Elks lodges. An avid hobbyist, Jack loved woodworking, oil painting, playing guitar and creative writing.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Marcy Bowen of Butler; his son, Michael Bowen of Mansfield, Texas; his daughters, Peggy Welch of Arlington, Texas, Angela Sutisna and Lisa Bowen, both of Butler, and Mary Bowen of Brookline, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Donna Eozzo of Butler and Liberty Blair of Clovis, Calif., and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Steven Bowen of Mansfield, Texas.

BOWEN — The friends of Jack Lee Bowen, who passed away Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, will be received at the Young Funeral Home, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Monday.
