ERIE — Seneca Valley graduate and Penn State Behrend freshman women's soccer player Alex Bilka has been named Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Bilka scored two goals in a victory over D'Youville, then two more in a 3-0 win over La Roche.
She leads the team with eight goals and 18 points on the season. The Lions are 7-4-1 on the campaign.
NEW CONCORD, Ohio — Moniteau graduate Jordan Smith, a junior linebacker on the Muskingum University football team, was part of that program’s 500th all-time victory last weekend.The Muskies rallied from a 21-point deficit to defeat Wilmington, 35-28, in overtime. Muskingum became the 41st school in NCAA Division III history to amass 500 wins.Smith has five tackles, including one for loss, in three games this season.
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. — The Atlanta Falcons could lose Julio Jones for the season after the Pro Bowl receiver injured his foot Monday in a 30-28 loss to the New York Jets.Jones, the NFL leader with 41 catches, did not get encouraging results from a visit with doctors Tuesday morning, coach Mike Smith said.Jones will see a foot specialist Wednesday in Charlotte, N.C.
NEW YORK — Quarterback Mark Sanchez has undergone season-ending surgery on his injured right shoulder, possibly also signaling the end of his New York Jets career.The surgery on the torn labrum was performed by Dr. James Andrews on Tuesday, the team announced on Twitter and its official site. Sanchez, who hasn't played since being injured in the third preseason game, says in a statement that he was advised by Andrews and other doctors to have surgery.
