Charles Rickenbrode

Charles B. Rickenbrode, 80, of Butler passed away Tuesday at VA Butler Healthcare.

He was born on Jan. 4, 1933, in Niles, Ohio, the son of the late Charles L. and Catherine (Easley) Rickenbrode Geagan.

Charles was a graduate of Bruin High School.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Charles was trained in the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft engine specialist, earned a National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal, and was honorable discharged in June of 1955.

He worked several different jobs including as a phone installer at Bell Telephone, before joining the Duquesne Light Co. He retired from there in 1995, after 36 years and seven months of dedicated service. He was also a member of the IBEW service union.

In his spare time he loved to be outdoors camping, fishing and traveling. Quality time with his family and friends were his most treasured memories and possessions. He will be sorely missed by all.

Surviving are two daughters, Carol (David) Barber of Evans City and Lisa (Kenneth) Stroup of Cranberry Township; four sons, Jim (Denise) Rickenbrode of Pittsburgh, David (Lisa) Rickenbrode of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Kenneth (Joyce) Rickenbrode of Jacksonville, Fla., and Richard (Heather) Rickenbrode of Renfrew; nine grandchildren, Nicholas (Katie) Barber, Derek Vogel, Vanessa, Matthew, Annalis, Olivia, Benjamin, Bailey and Kelsey Rickenbrode; a great-grandson, Owen Barber; and a brother, John Rickenbrode of Parker.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Marilyn C. (Moore) Rickenbrode, who died Oct. 5, 1993.

Rickenbrode — Friends of Charles B. Rickenbrode, who passed away Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013, will be received at the Young Funeral Home, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.m. until time of service at noon Saturday with the Rev. W. Lee Dreyer of the White Oak Springs Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Butler County Memorial Park.Military honors by the VFW Post 249 and the American Legion Post 778 will be at graveside.Information also is available at www.youngfuneralhomes.com.
