Pgh. black arts center may lose funding

PITTSBURGH — An agency that doles out county sales tax money to regional assets like parks, libraries and theaters has denied a request for $425,000 from Pittsburgh’s debt-ridden August Wilson Center for African American Culture.

The denial marks the first time in 15 years that the Allegheny Regional Asset District Board has denied funding for the center. The board is offering $300,000 in contingency funds that will be available only if the center solves its other financial problems.

Dollar Bank has moved to foreclose on the center claiming it missed a $54,000 mortgage payment.
