Violet R. Galey, 86, of Cabot, formerly of Clinton Township, passed away Thursday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born on March 4, 1927, in Tarentum, she was the daughter of Raymond B. and Dorothy Donnell Gillespie.

Violet graduated from Tarentum High School in 1944, and participated in band as a majorette. She then graduated from The Pennsylvania State University in 1948, majoring in elementary and special education.

She had worked as a bank officer for the Laurel Savings Bank, the Peoples Federal Savings & Loan and the Johnstown Bank & Trust.

She was a member of St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Saxonburg, a two-term director on the South Butler County School Board, a member and a past president of the Rotary Club of New Kensington and the Brackenridge Book Club. She enjoyed traveling, reading, gardening and playing bridge.

Surviving are three sons, David Galey of Minneapolis, Minn., Thomas Galey of Mars and Shawn Galey of Singapore; her sister, Grace Ann Crighton of Saxonburg, and seven grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

GALEY — Friends of Violet R. Galey, who passed away Thursday Aug. 29, 2013, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Fox Funeral Home, Saxonburg.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Saxonburg, with the Rev. Roger G. Keller officiating. Interment will follow in Saxonburg Memorial Church Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Saxonburg or to Concordia Lutheran Ministries, 134 Marwood Road, Cabot, PA 16023
