BROCKWAY — A northwestern Pennsylvania man who critically wounded a state trooper as a warrant was being served appears to have killed himself, police said Friday.

Trooper Brad Wilson, a 24-year veteran of the state police, is in critical condition at a Pittsburgh hospital, state police said. The dead man was identified as 60-year-old Kenneth Lees Sr.

Police were seeking to serve a warrant early Thursday afternoon at Lees’ house in Brockway, about 100 miles northeast of Pittsburgh, as part of an investigation into a possible methamphetamine lab. Police say they believe Lees shot Wilson through a window and then killed himself. The investigation is ongoing.

Lees was the sole occupant of the home, but police also issued a warrant for the man’s son, Kenneth Lees Jr.

Officers spotted the car of the younger Lees on Thursday evening and attempted to stop it. But Lees led them on a 20- to 25-minute chase, State Police Capt. Bernard Petrovsky said. The vehicle was disabled by strips placed across the road, and Lees tried to run away before being arrested.

The younger Lees faces felony charges of fleeing and eluding and aggravated assault.

40-foot rubber duck towed to PittsburghPITTSBURGH — One big duck has taken up residence on Pittsburgh’s three rivers.A 40-foot-tall inflatable duck floated down the Ohio River Friday to mark the opening of an arts festival.The duck was inflated about five miles north of Pittsburgh and was towed to the confluence of the Allegheny, Ohio and Monongahela rivers.The weather was just ducky for its arrival, with temperatures in the low 70s and a light breeze. A few dozen small boats turned out to greet the duck, and crowds gathered on a nearby river walk.The duck is the idea of Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman. Various versions have made a splash in harbors from Hong Kong to Sao Paulo since 2007.The duck’s arrival marks the start of the Pittsburgh International Festival of Firsts — and is the first time one of the ducks has been bobbed in U.S. waters.Each city builds its own duck, and the whole project includes massive pontoons and crews to inflate and deflate the duck.Pittsburgh’s duck will be moored near the city’s two major league sports stadiums until late October.
