WINFIELD TWP — Outdoor fun and the history of horticulturalist and missionary Johnny Appleseed will be the focus of a festival from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 5 at the Sower's Chapel, 100 Iron Bridge Road, Sarver.

At 2 p.m., Freeport Theater Festival's Rennick Steele will tell how Appleseed helped local settlers plant the orchards required to keep their land and how he shared what he called “good news from heaven.”

An apple pie competition, pumpkin rumble, hayrides, art vendors, fleatique, apple games, bake sale, duck pond, chili cook-off and food will be available.

WEST SUNBURY — A community fundraiser for North Trails Public Library will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Oct. 5 at American Legion Post 243, 1431 W. Sunbury Road (Rt. 308).A pig roast, live music, Chinese auction, 50/50 raffles and a balloon artist (2 to 3 p.m.) are included in the fun.Discount tickets are available in advance.
