Sherwood A. 'Woody' Soose

Soose

Sherwood A. “Woody” Soose, 69, of Clay Township died Monday at his daughter's home in Chicora surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born on Nov. 5, 1943, in Butler, the son of the late George and Olive (Wise) Soose.

Sherwood was a lifelong resident of the Butler- Unionville area. He enjoyed lifelong friendships with his childhood schoolmates.

Woody is survived by three daughters, Sherridyn E. (David) Pistorius, Darylee B. (Patrick) McAfee and Tyolonda V. Parsons; one stepdaughter, Kareyma N. (Brian) Cummins; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dolly Krick and Patricia N. (Dave) McDougal; and three brothers, Gerald E. (Annabelle) Soose, Francis L. (Madaline) Soose and Larry J. (Pat) Soose.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia O. Thompson; two brothers, infant Dewayne Soose and Donald G. Soose; two sons-in-law, William F. Mangel and Jeffrey A. Parsons; and one grandson, Reuben A. Mangel.

Sherwood worked for Fire Fighter Sales and Service for 44 years and continued for it part time up until his illness. He took pride in doing his job well and was often requested to conduct fire safety classes. In past years, he had served as a Unionville volunteer firefighter.

He had a great curiosity and interest in life and was known as a great conversationalist. He loved talking to everyone, especially about the Bible. He was an active member of the Butler Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. His love for people motivated him to volunteer for the Regional Building Committee, which builds places of worship.

He was known to be someone people could count on. If someone needed help, he was there. He never said a bad word about anyone and never met a person he didn't think of as a potential friend. Children were often drawn to him because they knew he loved them. He was a wonderful example of a father, grandfather, friend and servant of God. This humble, generous man made a difference in our lives, made us better for knowing him. He will be greatly missed.

Thank you to all the people that took time to get to know him through the years and to all who took the time to say goodbye.
