Lorraine (Schomburg) Mussig, 97, of Zelienople passed away Tuesday at VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.

Born on May 5, 1916, in Zelienople, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Vesta (Bonzo) Schomburg.

Mrs. Mussig was a longtime member of the English Lutheran Church in Zelienople, where she formerly served as a gleaner. During her free time, she loved fishing, cooking, baking, playing cards and shuffleboard.

Mr. and Mrs. Mussig proudly owned and operated Mussig Florist and Mussig Greenhouse in Zelienople, working side by side throughout their married life.

They had the privilege of owning a home in Florida, where they spent the winter months, and during the summer months they would help their children and family with the two businesses. Above all, her hard working spirit, her zest for life and the love for her family will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her three loving children, Julian E. “Sonny” Mussig and his wife, Carole, of Zelienople, Carroll M. Cooper and her husband, Tony, of Zelienople and Marlene L. Mussig of Zelienople; her eight grandchildren, John Mussig, Marcy Mussig, Lori Dawson, Todd Cooper, J. Scott Cooper, Trevor “T.J.” Cooper, Gary Knauff Jr. and Andy Knauff; and her 13 great-grandchildren, Robin Mussig, Mark Mussig, Cole Cooper, Grant Cooper, Laken Cooper, Peyton Cooper, Beck Cooper, Case Cooper, Emma Cooper, Krystal Knauff, Michael Knauff, Matthew Knauff and Alex Knauff.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Julian C. Mussig, who she married on June 12, 1934, and who passed away on Nov. 24, 1997, and her two sisters.

Mussig — The family of Lorraine (Schomburg) Mussig, who passed away Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, will welcome friends from 4 p.m. until the time of a funeral ceremony at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Glenn-Kildoo Funeral Home, 219 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople, with the Rev. Robert A. Keplinger officiating.She will be laid to rest privately by her family at the Zelienople Community Mausoleum.If desired, memorial contributions may be made in her honor in support of the expansion of the Mussig Shelter at the Zelienople Community Park, P.O.
