Fire hits home in Slippery Rock Township

SLIPPERY ROCK TWP — Fire Sunday afternoon gutted a cottage-style home south of Rock Falls Park in the township.

The occupants, who se names were not immediately available, were home when the fire broke out about 3:30 p.m. but no one was injured, authorities said.

It appeared the blaze at the single-story house on Lutes Lane, about one-half miles west of Route 173, started in the basement. Flames quickly spread up the walls and into the attic, filling the home with smoke, fire officials said.

About two dozens firefighters from three departments got there and quickly made an interior attack. However, the fire had too good of a start.

By the time the blaze was out, the inside of the home was destroyed, authorities said. The home's exterior was largely in tact.

The cause of the fire was not known. Chief Dave Taggart of the Slippery Rock Township Fire Company did not return a telephone call this morning.

Assisting the Slippery Rock fire company were firefighters from Harrisville and Unionville.

Fire crews remained at the home until about 6 p.m.
