Agnes Gertrude Schmeider, 85, of Cabot went home Sunday to the Lord at Concordia Lutheran Ministries, Good Samaritan Hospice, Cabot.

Aggie was born on Feb. 16, 1928, in Butler to the late Walter Adam Kradel and Nellie Naomie (Lardin) Kradel. She was a lifelong resident of the Butler area, living on Miller Street for most of her adult life.

In addition to her parents, Aggie was preceded in death by her loving husband and best friend for 59 years, Herbert Charles Schmeider, who she married on Oct. 19, 1946, and who passed away in 2006. She also was preceded in death by a son, Richard E. Schmeider; brothers, Loyal (Bud) Kradel, Howard (Howdy) Kradel, Walter (Wally) Kradel, Richard (Dick) Kradel; and sisters, Mrs. William (Naomi) Polum, Mrs. Elmer (Helen) Bowen and Mrs. Raymond (Marie) Miller.

Aggie is survived by her sisters, Mrs. Robert (Wanda) Riemer of Saxonburg and Mrs. William (Myrtle) Bachman of Conneaut Lake; her son, Jerry L. Schmeider and his wife, Renée Balicki Schmeider, of Kitty Hawk, N.C.; four grandchildren, Bradley A. Schmeider, Nathan C. Schmeider, Janelle Schmeider Peters and her husband, Steven, and Cortney Schmeider Griffiths and her husband, Mark; and great-grandson, Rhett Griffiths. Agnes also is survived by her stepson, Herbert C. Schmeider and his wife, Cecilia Weiland Schmeider; her step-grandchildren, Cindy (Sid) Schmeider, Timothy Schmeider, Dorothy Schmeider Herold and MaryBeth Schmeider Cavanaugh, along with many step great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

During the 1960s and 1970s, Aggie enjoyed 12 years of service as a school crossing guard in Butler. She also was active in a couples bowling league, played women's softball and enjoyed cooking her famous family favorite, sweet potato casserole. Having the neighbors over to swim in her pool or visit in her living room was something she truly loved.

In later life, she crocheted and never missed the daily crossword puzzle in the Butler Eagle. Aggie's warm smile and laughter brought happiness to those who knew her. Her friends and family were the most important part of her life.

Schmeider — Visitors of Agnes Gertrude Schmeider, who passed away Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday with a funeral service immediately following at 7 p.m. at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.
