Scoop still off target
I am ashamed.
If my face wasn’t already covered with feathers, I’d cover it with feathers.
This picking thing is really giving me problems this season. Games I thought were locks have been anything but.
So, here I perch, with a loathsome 20-13 record three weeks into the high school football season.
Week 4 has some difficult games to call on it as well.
Here goes nothing:
North Hills 28, Butler 10 — The Golden Tornado are having trouble scoring points.
That’s bad news in this section.
Seneca Valley 44, Connellsville 14 — Sorry, Raiders, but I’m climbing on your bandwagon, which this season means it is sure to crash.
But not this week, at least.
Hollidaysburg 22, Knoch 19 — Good news, Knights. I’m picking you to lose what is sure to be a game that will go down to the wire. That means you’ll win.
Yay!
Mars 19, Highlands 15 — A Planets’ win in this one will really muddle the section race.
I have to go with Mars in a big game like this, especially when they have a tank like Josh Schultheis to ram into the Highlands’ defense 30-plus times.
Valley 26, Freeport 9 — The Yellowjackets have yet to score a point in the first half this season. They will fall behind again early against Valley.
Kittanning 38, Summit Academy 15 — It’s always difficult to figure out Summit Academy. It’s really difficult to figure them out this season.
One thing is for certain, though: Kittanning is for real.
Karns City 36, Union 20 — Union can score and present a challenge for Karns City to put the breaks on that passing game.
The Gremlins also have a plethora of weapons. Karns City will just be too much for the Golden Knights.
Clarion 48, Moniteau 14 — Speaking of too much firepower ... it isn’t a stretch to think Clarion could be playing deep into the state playoffs this season.
Punxsutawney 37, A-C Valley 12 — Oh, A-C Valley. The Falcons are one of the reasons why I’m in the hole that I’m in this season.
There is a chance to bounce back this week for A-C Valley, but it’s going to be tough to pull this one out.
Slippery Rock 35, Bradford 7 — The Rockets struggled a bit on offense last week against Central Tech.
The Owls will be saying, “Who ... just ran past me for a touchdown?”
Hickory 21, Grove City 16 — The Eagles are also befuddling. They beat Wilmington and then dominate Reynolds for a half, before almost blowing it.
The Hornets stung Grove City twice last season and I have a feeling they will again.
Then again, what do I know?
Scoop knows he needs to bounce back in a hurry.
