CENTER TWP — The township supervisors on Sept. 11 voted to extend the contract with its union workers for an additional three years.

Union workers would receive a pay raise of 3 percent for the first year with a 1 percent raise for each of the additional two years.

The contract would go into effect on Jan. 1 if ratified by the union.

The deal mirrors the current agreement, which went into effect in 2011.

There are six township road employees and a bookkeeper represented by the United Mine Workers union.

Chairman Ron Flatt said the typical road worker makes $19.23 per hour.

Under the new contract, that worker would receive more than a 50 cent per hour raise in 2014 and about a 20 cent per hour raise both in 2015 and 2016.

The union employees now must vote to ratify the deal.
