Nelle Zarnick

Nelle B. Zarnick, 85, of Butler died at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday at VNA Hospice with her family at her side.

Nelle was born on Dec. 11, 1927, in Butler, to Edward and Margaret Duddy Fitzpatrick.

During her early years she worked as an office assistant to Dr. Camp. She met her husband, Dan, at a Sunday night dance at the Phalanx Hall in Butler during the era of the big band and jitterbug. They were married on June 26, 1947, and celebrated a 66th anniversary this year.

After raising her family, Nelle joined the staff at Calvary Day Care Center and volunteered for Meals on Wheels. She was an advocate for the pro-life movement and actively supported Catholic missions and EWTN.

Nelle enjoyed casino trips. Her favorite lottery number was 379 based on the three times Jesus fell during the Stations of the Cross. She enjoyed family vacations at Seaside Heights and the Outer Banks, and the friends she met during winters at Myrtle Beach. She was a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, and was a former Red Hat Lady.

Surviving are her husband, Dan; her children, Kathy Grossman (Jim), Dan Zarnick Jr. (Pam), Gary Zarnick (Cathy), Maureen English (Bill), Terri Osche (Barry), all of Butler, Connie Clark (Matt) of Virginia and Rob (Rachelle) of Pittsburgh; grandchildren, Michele and Jennifer Grossman, Tricia, Kristin and Dan III Zarnick, Jason and Justin Zarnick, Ryan, Nathan and Jordan English, Holly Badger and Jill Tatangelo, Wyatt, Hannah, Jonah and Gillian Clark and Brady and Alexis Zarnick. She also is survived by her great-grandchildren, Devin Sherman, Riley Zarnick, Krya Kleeman, Ayden Zarnick, Colton and Atticus English, Addison Badger, Amelia English; her sister, Verna, and a brother Dick (Dorothy) Fitzpatrick.

Nelle was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.

Zarnick — Friends of Nelle B. Zarnick, who died Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St., Butler.Entombment will follow in the Mausoleum of Calvary Cemetery.The Women's Council of St. Peter will meet at 10:40 a.m. Friday at the church to recite the rosary.Information also is available at www.geibelfuneralhome.com.
