Doris Griffiths

Doris I. Griffiths, 83, of Kaylor-Frogtown Road, East Brady, Sugarcreek Township, Armstrong County, went to be with the Lord late Monday evening at ACMH Hospital in Kittanning.

Doris was born on Dec. 11, 1929, in Kaylor. She was the daughter of John J. and Dorothy E. Sheakley Olcus.

She was married in Frogtown at the St. Paul's Church on Sept. 10, 1949, to Harry L. “Short” Griffiths. He survives.

She was a graduate of Karns City High School.

Mrs. Griffiths was a longtime member of the St. Paul's Community Church in Chicora. She was a homemaker and enjoyed baking, crocheting and gardening. Doris and her husband enjoyed many years square dancing with the Alamo Squares.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, William Griffiths and his wife, Linda, Willis Griffiths and his wife, Kay, and Linda Guntrum and her husband, William, all of Chicora; seven grandchildren, Eric Griffiths and his wife, Sarah, Heather Powers and her husband, Steven, Melissa Mechling and her husband, Nathan, and Bradley Griffiths, all of Chicora, Theresa Davis and her husband, Joe, of Templeton, Pa., Alison Belles and her husband, Jimmy, of Shelocta, Pa., and Curtis Guntrum and his wife, Megan, of Corry, Pa.; 16 great-grandchildren, Justin and Luke Davis, Kaiden and Cambree Powers, Katelyn Bronder, Matthew, Joshua, and Emily Griffiths, Brooklyn Belles, Micaiah Matson, Hannah, Ethan, Hilary and Owen Mechling and Callie and Macsen Guntrum; a brother, Leo Olcus and his wife, Irene, of East Brady; two sisters, Ruth Delaney of Leeper and Marian McKenzie of Chicora; a sister-in-law, Rebecca Olcus of Cabot; a sister-in-law, Mildred Griffiths of East Brady; as well as a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Griffiths was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Olcus and James Olcus, and three brothers-in-law, Lloyd Delaney, Clayton Ardell McKenzie and Clyde Griffiths.

Griffiths — Friends of Doris I. Griffiths, who passed away Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, will be received at the Hile Funeral Home, 128 Main St., Karns City, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and at St. Paul's Community Church, 2167 Route 268, Chicora, from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday. A funeral service will follow from the church at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Randall Forester, church pastor, officiating.Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, Sugarcreek Township, Armstrong County.Memorial contributions in Mrs. Griffiths' name may be made to St. Paul's Community Church.Online condolences may be sent by visiting www.hilefh.com.
