SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University quarterback Nigel Barksdale and punter James McCombie have received national recognition for their performances Saturday.
Barksdale, who already shared PSAC West Offensive Player of the Week honors, was named D2Football.com national player of the week after throwing for 465 yards and a school-record six touchdowns in SRU's 51-36 win at Northwood (Mich.).
McCombie was named one of three recipients of the Beyond Sports Network's Division II Special Teams Player of the Week. He averaged a national-best 53.2 yards on four punts, including a 74-yarder.
SLIPPERY ROCK — Despite an hour-long lightning delay, Slippery Rock University set school records in total shots and shots on goal in a 5-1 victory over Mansfield Wednesday.SRU (2-1) had 35 shots, 30 on goal. Lindsay Brown had two goals and an assist, Megan McKay two goals and Kelsey Gustafson one.
