Michael West

West

Michael West, 93, of Butler passed away Thursday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

He was born March 11, 1920, in Lyndora, the son of the late Michael and Ethel (Boserock) West.

Mike loved to dance and enjoyed bicycling and hunting. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II in Normandy in the 29th Infantry Division on D-Day. He has worked as a barber in the Army and also as a civilian. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service.

Surviving are his wife, Rita (Wilbert) Gonda West, who he married Sept. 29, 1990; one daughter, Vickie (Buddy) Turner of Butler; one granddaughter, Robyn Stewart of Butler; one grandson, Scott (Missy) Stewart of Verona; one great-granddaughter, Gloria Stewart; six stepchildren; 18 step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and one brother, William West of Idaho.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Mabel (George) West; one son, Gary West; one sister; and one brother, Willis West.

WEST — Friends of Michael West, who died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, will be received at the Young Funeral Home, 127 W. Jefferson St., Butler, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Dan Borchet officiating.
