Alice A. Kirkner
Alice A. Kirkner, 66, of North Buffalo Township passed away peacefully at 2 p.m. Monday at the Kittanning Care Center.
Alice was born in Butler on Jan. 31, 1947. She is the daughter of Ruth May-Hasselback of Butler and the late John May.
She was a member of the Center United Methodist Church in Fawn Township. Alice was a graduate of Har-Brack High School and graduated from Slippery Rock University with a degree in elementary education. Alice had raised her children in the Freeport area and was as a substitute elementary teacher for 20 years with the Freeport School District. She also worked for numerous day care centers in the area for 10 years.
After her children graduated, she moved to and lived in Renfrew for 10 years. The past few years she had lived with her daughter in North Buffalo Township. Alice enjoyed traveling and camping with her family. She enjoyed doing craft work and loved animals.
She is survived by her three children, Kristi Kirkner of North Buffalo Township, Jason (Shelly) Kirkner of North Buffalo Township and Stephen (April) Kirkner of Chesapeake, Va.; three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Abigail and Ava Kirkner; two sisters, Joan (Dennis) Morgan of Anchorage, Alaska, and Patsy (Bill) Myers of Natrona Heights; and her ex-husband, Richard Kirkner of North Buffalo Township.
She was preceded in death by her brother, John Jeffrey May.
Kirkner — Family and friends of Alice A. Kirkner, who passed away Monday Aug. 5, 2013, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Redmond Funeral Home, 524 High St., Freeport. A funeral service will be in the funeral home at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial service will be in Mount Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights.
