For Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) month, the Western Pennsylvania Single County Authorities will hold a forum on FASD from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Monday at Findley Auditorium, Butler Memorial Hospital.

Information tables will be open from 12:30 to 1 and 2:30 to 3 p.m.

Fetal alcohol spectrum disorders are caused by a woman drinking alcohol during pregnancy. It is the leading preventable cause of developmental disabilities and birth defects.

Gov. Tom Corbett's proclamation will be read during the event. Speaker Dianne O'Connor will explain the joys and challenges of raising children with FASD, and Jasmine Suarez O'Connor will share what it is like to live with FASD.

The Butler Dog Training Association will hold the annual Doggie Fun Day at Alameda Park from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 15.The day includes agility rings for inexperienced through advanced owner/dog teams, a rally obedience ring, breed and obedience competition and canine good citizen/therapy dog testing.Homemade food, a large raffle of doggie items and many vendors will be available. The annual Doggie Paddle Pool Party will be from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at Alameda Pool.For this canine-only swim, take copies of the pet's license and vaccination records.There is an admission fee for canines but humans enter free. SUMMIT TWP — Faith Lutheran Church, 241 Freeport Road, will have its annual rummage sale and bake sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 14.Fundraising workshop slatedThe Butler Public Library's Foundation Center will have a lunch and learn workshop for nonprofit organizations from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 17 at the library, 218 N. McKean St.Speakers include Jim Cunningham of Gronlund Sayther Brunkow, Nicole DeMartino of MetLife Foundation and Kelly Conger of Alliance for Nonprofit Resources.Lunch will be provided at this free event, but seating is limited. Butler Health System's September free educational session will be “Introduction to Heart Failure” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 18 in Findley Auditorium, Butler Memorial Hospital.In heart failure, the heart cannot pump enough blood through the body.The presentation by Dr. Dean Wolz and nurse practitioner Emily Stefaniak is free.To register, call 800-841-6825.
