Dale Barkley Sr.

Dale Cody Barkley Sr., 94, of Grove City, formerly of Slippery Rock, Mercer Township, passed away at 10:30 p.m. Friday at the Grove Manor Nursing Home, Grove City.

Dale was born in Brady Township, Butler County, on Aug. 2, 1918, to John Paul Barkley and Luella Jean Shannon Barkley.

He married Ruth Emily McCandless on June 19, 1943.

Dale was a member of the West Unity Community Church in Harrisville. He retired from SATEC located in Grove City. Before his work at SATEC, he had operated the family dairy farm. In the late 1930s through the late 1950s, he transported milk from many local dairy farms to the Butler Creamery.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth E. Barkley at home in Grove City; three daughters, Nancy Allman and her husband, William, of Saxonburg, Dianna McCommons and her husband, Milton, of Dauphin, Pa., and Ida Mae Brown and her husband, Robert, of Lindale, Ga.; two daughters-in-law, Karen Sue Barkley of Slippery Rock and Darlene Barkley of Seven Fields; one sister, Betty Jo Long and her husband, Charles Duane, of Harrisville; eight grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two sons, John H. Barkley and Dale C. Barkley Jr.; a sister, Kathleen Kelly, and four brothers, Edwin, Donald, Paul and Olyn Gene.

Barkley — Family and friends of Dale Cody Barkley Sr., who passed away Friday, July 26, 2013, will be at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock, from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Wednesday.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Pastor Boyd Smith of the West Unity Community Church of Harrisville presiding. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mount Chesnut.
