Moraine State Park will have kayak programs including Learn to Kayak from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday and an entry-level “Silver Paddle” from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday. Participants can take their own kayaks or borrow one at the park. Participants should be at least age 9 and an adult must accompany anyone under 18. Call 724-368-8811 to register. There will be demonstrations of the historic oil well in operation on Park Road from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 14 and Oct. 12. A stargazing party is planned for 8 p.m. Aug. 30 near the North Shore bike rental.
McConnells Mill State Park in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County, will present “Native Plants for Your Garden” from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Kildoo picnic area. The Heritage Festival will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 28 and 29. The mill is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays, Saturday and Sundays through October. Interpretive tours, which last about 45 minutes, are available at 1 and 3 p.m. Call 724-368-3612.
